Quick Start Guide
Ready to give RiffSync a try? Here is what you need to know to get going:
Step 1 - Purchase a RiffTrax
Click the RiffTrax Store button in the lower-right corner of the RiffSync Library window, and follow the instructions to start browsing the RiffTrax.com store.
If you are new to RiffTrax.com, we have a few suggestions that may help you get started:
- To get started, you may want to try an "Official RiffTrax" rather than user-submitted track. (The RiffTrax.com store sells both RiffTrax performed by their staff, and also tracks submitted by their users known as "iRiffs" and "RiffTrax Presents".) Both types of RiffTrax should work with RiffSync, although we have done more extensive testing with the official tracks.
- Look for RiffTrax files that are not VOD (video on demand). The VOD tracks are stand-alone videos, so there is no need to use RiffSync with these. Generally, the VOD offerings on RiffTrax.com are short films rather than feature-length movies.
- When you purchase a track, make sure to download the audio file as an MP3 file. (The download will actually be a .zip file, which will expand when you get it to a folder with an MP3 file and a ReadMe file.)
Step 2 - Add the RiffTrax file to your RiffSync Library
Add your new RiffTrax file by clicking the "Add Riff" button at the bottom of the RiffSync Library window, or simply drag the RiffTrax file into the left side of the Library window. Note that it may take a minute or two to copy and process the file.
Step 3 - Obtain the movie for the RiffTrax
Each RiffTrax file is created to be played back with a specific movie. You can provide this movie either on DVD (played through the DVD Player application) or as a rental, purchase, or otherwise obtained movie file in iTunes.
Note that the movie must be an exact match for what RiffTrax.com specified - in other words, if the track calls for a "Director's Cut" of the movie, make sure you get that version.
Step 4 - Start Riffing!
You can now click on the RiffTrax in your RiffSync library, and click the Start Riffing button to start playing. RiffSync will then guide you through playing the movie in either iTunes or DVD Player
For more information on playing tracks and adjusting the sync, please refer to the detailed instructions on using the
